Automating Software Development with Maven, Docker, and GitHub Actions

Abstract

This chapter's main objective is to provide practical guidance on developing a Java-based application with the Maven build tool. In addition, the project uses GitHub Actions to manage the creation of a Docker image and its seamless deployment to your Docker Hub account. The goal of this project is to show how to use contemporary software development techniques and tools to create a robust and scalable application. We built the application and managed dependencies using Maven's features. Additionally, we containerized the program and made it cross-platform compatible using Docker. Lastly, we automated the build, test, and deployment processes using GitHub Actions_x000D_ Workflow, which is simple to use and scalable.
