Abstract: Indian environmental jurisprudence is emerging with the aid of judiciary and a significant shift is observed in the case of Vellore Citizens Welfare Forum v. Union of India. The case in its ambit covers environmental law, constitutional law and principles of international environmental law such as polluter pays principle, precautionary principle and sustainable development. The case has much significance on applicability of emerging principles of renewable energy law which is a subset of environmental and climate change law.
