Abstract: Investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) and international investment law (IIL) have transitioned from the periphery to the core of international law since the turn of the millennium.1 By doing so, IIL not only accommodates preconceived notions and structures of the general public. International law, yet actively participates in their formation. This is applicable to regions of general international law, including the law of state responsibility and the law of treaties, but The (formal) origins of international law are also considered.
