Abstract: The role of consumers, who transact with merchants by buying or leasing products and services, is crucial in supporting employment rates. The protection of consumer rights is essential for any economic system to thrive. The emergence of globalization, along with rising consumer awareness, has highlighted the growing importance of protecting customers’ rights. However, in spite of the wide range of goods and services offered, customers are frequently at danger due to the existence of fraudulent sellers and service providers. Even though a great deal of legislation has been passed to protect the interests of consumers, the truth is that consumer protection measures are only a small patch in the vast ocean of dissatisfaction among consumers, with a large segment of the public still unaware of their legal rights. This study aims to investigate ways in which effective consumer protection might be achieved while keeping in mind the existing conditions and obstacles. A major turning point in India’s consumer protection policy was the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act in 2019, which expanded customer choice and provided better protections. As a result, this research provides a comprehensive examination of consumer protection in India, scrutinizing the laws and throwing light on the development of relevant legislation, the processes in place for resolving consumer disputes, and judicial tendencies that support consumer rights.
