Abstract: This chapter follows through on what a smart city is, in its entirety. In this chapter we explore the meaning of smart cities, the effort that it would take for the society as well as the government to accept it and the different technologies behind it. We also look at the different benefits that integrating smart cities would give us which includes but is not limited to caring for the environment by switching to green and smart energy. Since it’s a theoretical concept its implementation faces a lot of issues and those are broadly discussed in the chapter, there are sections which describe the role of new-age technologies and how they are incorporated into the smart city system. The banes and boons of smart cities regarding transparency and personal space are also discussed in this chapter. This chapter aims to provide a proper insight into the concept of the smart city which if implemented successfully would usher the society into a more comfortable environment and increase the standard of living. This chapter will help to understand the different reasons which withhold the concept from turning into reality as well as try to fill the gap in literature regarding practicality and theory.
