Abstract: The caste system is the hierarchical ordering of society made up of four castes, the brahmins at the top and are known as the holders of religious learning followed by Kshatriyas who are known to be the warriors or the kingship caste and the third caste is made up of Vaishyas who are the merchants and then there are Shudras who are said to have done the menial jobs. There is yet another group of people below the Shudras known as the untouchables. Today they are no longer called as untouchables but they are called as Dalits which is a political identity that they took on, they are said to be outside of the caste system and therefore the lowest section in the Hindu society.
