UNDERSTANDING CHILD RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE IN INDIA

Abstract

This paper explores the landscape of child rights and social justice in India, analysing the challenges, legal frameworks, key issues, and the role of stakeholders. It emphasizes the intertwined nature of child rights and social justice, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to address the complex issues faced by children in India. This paper encompasses an examination of the legal framework for child rights in India, encompassing constitutional provisions and key legislations like the Right to Education Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, and the Child Labour Act. It proceeds to analyse the key issues in child rights, including child labour, child marriage, child trafficking, education, and child health and nutrition. These issues are explored in terms of their causes, consequences, and government initiatives to address them. The interconnectedness of social justice and child rights is also explored, focusing on aspects like social inclusion and equality, marginalized and vulnerable children, and the role of the juvenile justice system. In conclusion, the paper emphasizes the criticality of safeguarding child rights and promoting social justice for a brighter and more equitable future for India's children. It underscores the need for a comprehensive approach involving legislation, effective implementation, awareness campaigns, and collaboration among stakeholders to overcome the challenges and ensure the well-being of children in India.
