Abstract: Since its beginnings during the colonial period, the statute of sedition has attracted criticism. The British planned to implement the rule in order to intimidate critics rather than encourage India's independence aspirations. However, since personal freedom is the foundation of a democracy, the law looks murky today. Additionally, over time, the state has abused the legislation. This legislation has been unjustly used by the fully connected in the guise of sovereign & security. The court system is being utilized to stifle disagreements & minimize criticism. Although a compromise was established between both in the Kedarnath Verdict, sedition legislation is now viewed as a breach of freedom of expression & speech. The article now will focus on this problem & attempt to offer remedies. The aim of the present research is to analyse the relevance of sedition law in modern day India. it further to understand and discuss the loopholes in Indian sedition law. This doctrinal study's goal is to examine India's law regarding dissent. By contrasting the treason statutes of different nations, it also aims to offer a global perspective. The research discusses current legislation & pertinent instances. Secondary information, such as scholarly publications, released research papers, journals, & tabloids, are used in the study for this purpose.
